    Summary

    Hepatitis C can complicate pregnancy, but with careful management, all pregnancies were sustained. This study highlights optimal care strategies for pregnant women with hepatitis C and their newborns.

    Background:

    • Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection presents unique challenges during pregnancy.
    • Understanding the interplay between HCV and pregnancy is crucial for effective management.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess the course and outcomes of hepatitis C in pregnant women.
    • To define optimal management strategies for pregnant women with HCV and their newborns during pregnancy and postpartum.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 76 pregnant women diagnosed with viral hepatitis C.
    • Evaluation of medical histories, obstetric status, and co-existing pathologies.

    Main Results:

    • Complicated pregnancy courses were observed in 38.2% (1st trimester), 13.1% (2nd trimester), and 24.3% (3rd trimester).
    • Symptomatic treatment tailored to HCV severity and stage enabled the successful continuation of all pregnancies.

    Conclusions:

    • Hepatitis C virus infection can complicate pregnancy.
    • Pregnancy does not appear to worsen the course of hepatitis C infection in mothers.
