    Summary

    The standard sulfosalicylic acid test may falsely indicate protein in urine for patients taking tolmetin. Alternative testing methods are recommended to accurately detect true proteinuria in these individuals.

    Background:

    • Tolmetin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used clinically.
    • Standard urine protein tests can be affected by drug metabolites.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate false-positive protein test results in patients taking tolmetin.
    • To identify the cause of pseudoproteinuria associated with tolmetin.
    • To recommend appropriate urine protein testing methods for tolmetin users.
