Insights
This study proposes a new integrated approach to prevent coronary artery disease (CAD) by addressing psychosocial risk factors alongside traditional ones. It emphasizes equal assessment of all factors for effective psycho-somatic primary prevention.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Psychology
- Preventive Medicine
Context:
- Coronary artery disease (CAD) is significantly influenced by psychosocial risk factors.
- Current primary prevention strategies for CAD lack integration of psychosocial elements.
- A comprehensive approach is needed to address the psycho-somato-social aspects of CAD.
Purpose:
- To propose a novel framework for integrated psycho-somatic primary prevention of CAD.
- To highlight the importance of assessing psychosocial risk factors equally with physiological ones.
- To introduce a comprehensive risk evaluation and psychocardiological consultation model.
Summary:
- This article presents a first attempt at a psycho-somatic primary prevention strategy for CAD.
- It discusses the pathological and psycho-physiological effects of psychosocial risk factors.
- A comprehensive risk evaluation and psychocardiological consultation are introduced.
Impact:
- Aims to improve primary prevention of CAD by incorporating psychosocial factors.
- Provides a foundation for a more holistic approach to cardiovascular health.
- May lead to better patient outcomes by addressing the whole person.
Abstract:
Although there exist many relevant data about the significant influence of psychosocial risk factors for coronary artery disease, there is no reliable concept for an integrated psycho-somato-social primary prevention for CAD. So this article is to be a first attempt on such a psycho-somatic primary prevention, based on the well known psycho-social risk factors. Referring to the pathological and psycho-physiological effects of these risk factors the need of equal assessment of all risk factors will be discussed. There will also be introduced a comprehensive risk evaluation and the possibility of a psychcardiological consultation.
