Summary

Glabellar rhytids are common in thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO). More severe wrinkles correlate with double vision (diplopia) and multiple disease signs in TAO patients.

Background:

  • Thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO) is an autoimmune condition affecting the eye and surrounding tissues.
  • Glabellar rhytids, or forehead wrinkles, are common cosmetic concerns.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between the presence and severity of glabellar rhytids and the overall disease severity in patients diagnosed with TAO.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective review of 113 new patient visits for TAO.
  • Ocular features like visual acuity, optic nerve status, proptosis, strabismus, and eyelid position were assessed.
  • Glabellar rhytid severity was graded using clinical photographs and correlated with clinical findings using the Fisher exact test.
