A simulator for teaching electrical safety procedures in the hospital
Abstract:
The dangers of accidental electrocution in the hospital, especially in the intensive care and coronary care units, have recently received much attention. The most important step in reducing such dangers is the proper training of hospital personnel in appropriate safety procedures. As a teaching aid for the training of V.A. personnel, a Simulator of Assorted Hazardous Malfunctions in Electrical Equipment (SAHMEE) was developed. With this simulator, safety hazards that might exist in a hospital environment can be shown, as well as the effects of electrical shock on a patient, and the effectiveness of various safety measures.
