Summary

Digoxin treatment significantly lowered cerebrospinal fluid pressure and promoted weight loss in obese patients. However, it also increased the risk of developing diabetes mellitus, particularly with higher doses.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of digoxin on Pcsf and body weight in obese patients.
  • To assess the safety and potential side effects of long-term digoxin use in this population.

Main Methods:

  • Fourteen obese patients with elevated Pcsf received digoxin for 6 months.
  • Serum digoxin concentrations were maintained at therapeutic levels (≥1.0 nmol/L).
  • Pcsf, body weight, and incidence of diabetes mellitus were monitored.
