Abstract:
Adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is the outcome of a dynamic process of clinical and behavioral interactions. This article reviews factors influencing this process and provides suggestions to enhance adherence to HAART. Interventions to improve adherence to HAART should combine efficacy of treatments with a strong patient-provider alliance and cognitive behavioral interventions.
