The P300 event-related potential (ERP) and alpha electroencephalography (EEG) activity are linked. P300 brain responses precede and predict individual differences in alpha event-related desynchronization (ERD).

Background:

  • To compare slow (7-10 Hz) and fast (10-14 Hz) alpha ERD in relation to P300.

  • Simultaneous analysis of P300 ERP and alpha ERD (7-10 Hz, 10-14 Hz).
  • Auditory passive and active oddball paradigms were used.
  • Task (target vs. nontarget) and electrode (Fz, Cz, Pz) effects were examined.

  • P300, slow alpha ERD, and fast alpha ERD showed similar task and electrode effects.
