This case report details a rare, gigantic jejunal leiomyosarcoma, a large tumor of the small intestine. The 13 kg tumor was successfully removed from a 30-year-old man.

Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Jejunal leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon gastrointestinal tumor.
  • Leiomyosarcomas arise from smooth muscle tissue.

Observation:

  • A 30-year-old male presented with abdominal distension, pain, and constipation.
  • A giant tumor occupied the entire abdominal cavity, confirmed by CT scan.
  • Fine needle aspiration cytology was suspicious for malignancy.

Findings:

  • A massive jejunal leiomyosarcoma, measuring 30 x 25 x 19 cm and weighing 13 kg, was surgically excised.
  • This represents the largest recorded jejunal leiomyosarcoma case.

Implications:

  • Highlights the potential for extreme tumor size in jejunal leiomyosarcoma.

Related Experiment Videos
