Summary

Status epilepticus (SE) after stroke is linked to higher functional disability, not increased mortality. Early-onset SE, occurring within seven days of stroke, significantly increases the risk of recurrence and mortality.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the incidence and risk factors of status epilepticus (SE) following a first-time stroke.
  • To identify predictive factors for SE development and recurrence in stroke survivors.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 1174 first-time stroke patients was analyzed.
  • 180 patients with post-stroke first-time seizures (PFSs) were followed for SE occurrence.
  • Statistical analysis compared patients with and without SE, examining various clinical and radiological factors.
