Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Pediatric Neurosurgery
  • Vascular Neurology

Background:

  • Traumatic intracranial aneurysms are rare, particularly in infants.
  • Delayed neurological deterioration after head trauma in children can have subtle signs.

Observation:

  • A 15-month-old infant presented with symptoms suggestive of a traumatic intracranial aneurysm.
  • Computed tomographic angiography confirmed the presence of an anterior cerebral artery aneurysm.

Findings:

  • The infant's traumatic anterior cerebral artery aneurysm was successfully clipped.
  • The patient experienced a full recovery following the surgical intervention.

Implications:

  • A high index of suspicion is necessary for diagnosing traumatic intracranial aneurysms in pediatric patients with head trauma.
