Area of Science:

  • Gynecologic Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures

Context:

  • Enlarged uteri due to fibroids or adenomyosis present surgical challenges.
  • Vaginal hysterectomy offers a minimally invasive approach for uterine removal.

Purpose:

  • To report the technique and outcomes of vaginal hysterectomy for enlarged uteri.
  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of this procedure in 25 cases.

Summary:

  • Vaginal hysterectomy was performed on 25 patients with uteri enlarged up to 16 weeks' gestation.
  • Uterine size was reduced using bisection, myomectomy, and morcellation.
  • Successful outcomes were achieved in 24 cases with manageable blood loss and short recovery times.

Impact:

  • Vaginal hysterectomy is a viable and safe surgical option for enlarged uteri.
  • Surgical success is linked to uterine mobility, size, and surgeon experience.
