Summary

Post-placental insertion of the copper T380A intrauterine device (IUD) is a convenient method for initiating contraception. This study found no increased risk of excessive bleeding or endometritis compared to non-IUD users.

  • To evaluate the safety and feasibility of the copper T380A IUD inserted immediately after placental expulsion.

  • A comparative study involving 145 women with post-placental IUD insertion and 157 controls.
  • Hemoglobin levels were measured pre-expulsion and 10 days postpartum.
  • Clinical diagnosis of endometritis was recorded for both groups.
