Background:

Increasing immigration from the former Soviet Union necessitates understanding the health status of Russian immigrants.
Prevalent lifestyle habits in Russia (smoking, alcoholism, limited preventive care) pose health risks.
Cardiovascular disease is a significant concern in immigrant populations.

Purpose of the Study:

To characterize the cardiovascular risk profile of Russian-born immigrants in Denver.
To identify specific cardiac risk factors prevalent in this demographic.
To inform targeted health interventions and reduce healthcare burdens.

Main Methods:

A cohort of 204 Russian immigrants in Denver was identified.
A risk assessment questionnaire was administered to screen participants.

Nearly half of participants had two or more cardiac risk factors.
Older adults (55-64 years) exhibited higher rates of hyperlipidemia and hypertension.

Conclusions:

Russian immigrants in Denver present a significant cardiovascular risk profile.
Targeted cardiac risk factor identification and intervention programs are recommended.
Proactive healthcare strategies can potentially lower long-term healthcare costs for this population.
