Tentorial vascularization in solid hemangioblastoma--case report.

Summary

A patient with a growing cerebellar hemangioblastoma experienced a postoperative hematoma due to tentorial vascular attachments. Early CT scans are crucial for identifying this complication after tumor resection.

Background:

Solid hemangioblastomas, particularly those near the tentorium, can present diagnostic and surgical challenges.
Recurrence or growth of cerebellar lesions necessitates careful preoperative evaluation and surgical planning.

Observation:

A 40-year-old female presented with a progressively worsening headache due to a rapidly growing right supracerebellar hemangioblastoma causing obstructive hydrocephalus.
The tumor exhibited significant vascularity with dural tentorial attachments, alongside other cerebellar and spinal lesions.

Findings:

Surgical resection of the hemangioblastoma was complicated by an early postoperative intracerebellar hematoma attributed to oozing from tentorial vascular attachments.
Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of hemangioblastoma.

Postoperative computed tomography (CT) imaging is essential for the early detection of hematomas in this specific surgical context.
