Summary

Visual backward masking (BM) is impaired in schizophrenia-spectrum patients even with normal working memory. This backward masking dysfunction may serve as a trait marker for these disorders.

  • Seventy-two patients with DSM-IV schizophrenia-spectrum disorders were screened for working memory function using the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) and digit span tasks.
