The crystal structure of the second monoclinic P2(1)/c form of the beta-carboline-3-carboxylate, C13H10N2O2, has been determined. Very small changes in the packing scheme lead to a different unit cell; the role of weak C-H...O hydrogen bonds seems to be crucial.
