Reproductive cloning is the process of producing a genetically identical copy—a clone—of an entire organism. While clones can be produced by splitting an early embryo—similar to what happens naturally with identical twins—cloning of adult animals is usually done by a process called somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT).

Summary

This case report details congenital thoracic scoliosis in identical twins, highlighting a rare occurrence of similar vertebral abnormalities in monozygotic twins.

Background:

The causes of congenital scoliosis are not fully understood, with both genetic and environmental factors proposed.
Existing literature includes limited reports of differing spinal conditions in twins.

Observation:

This study presents a case of female monozygotic twins diagnosed with congenital scoliosis.
Both twins exhibited thoracic hemivertebra, a specific type of congenital vertebral anomaly.

Findings:

Congenital thoracic scoliosis was identified in both individuals of a monozygotic twin pair.
The presence of similar vertebral abnormalities, specifically thoracic hemivertebra, in identical twins is documented.
