A collaborative care intervention for trauma survivors showed initial improvements in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression symptoms one month after injury. However, these benefits did not persist at four months, suggesting a need for further research.

  • To pilot a 4-month collaborative care intervention for injured motor vehicle crash and assault victims.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depressive symptoms, alcohol intoxication, and functional limitations.

Main Methods:

  • Pilot randomized effectiveness trial involving 34 surgical inpatients (16 intervention, 18 control).
  • Intervention group received support from a trauma support specialist, including counseling and care coordination.
  • Assessments for PTSD, depression, alcohol intoxication, and functional limitations were conducted during hospitalization and at 1 and 4 months post-injury.
