Does a laparoscopic approach to total abdominal colectomy and proctocolectomy offer advantages?

Laparoscopic total abdominal colectomy (LTAC) offers significant reductions in wound and long-term complications compared to open surgery, with a shorter hospital stay despite longer operative times. Laparoscopic total proctocolectomy (LTPC) is also feasible and safe.
