Understanding allograft repair mechanisms is crucial for improving outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the time-dependent repair mechanisms of massive human allografts.
To analyze bone healing, soft-tissue integration, and cartilage changes over time.

Main Methods:

Radiographic and histological analysis of 73 human allografts (2-156 months post-implantation).
Quantitative assessment of union, cortical repair, fracture healing, allograft-cement interface, and articular cartilage.

Main Results:

Cortical union averaged 12 months via external callus; bone in the gap showed no remodeling.
