Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate platelet aggregation and fibrinolytic activity in patients with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
  • To compare these hemostatic parameters between glaucoma subtypes and healthy controls.

Main Methods:

  • Photoelectrophotometric analysis of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) or collagen-induced platelet aggregation.
  • Measurement of prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen, thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT), and alpha2 plasmin inhibitor-plasmin complex.

    • Platelet function may represent a significant contributing factor in the pathophysiology of certain glaucoma types.
