Summary

This study identified three key memory factors in dementia patients: recent memory, immediate memory or attention, and remote memory. A simple summary score effectively measures dementia severity, showing a continuum of decline.

Background:

Dementia assessment requires reliable measures of cognitive function.
Understanding the dimensional structure of cognitive deficits is crucial for accurate diagnosis and management.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify the underlying factors of cognitive performance in dementia.
To determine if a summary score can effectively measure dementia severity.

Administered a 27-subscale cognitive test to 262 dementia patients and 92 controls.
