Summary

Background:

Hepatocytes play a crucial role in glucose homeostasis by storing glucose as glycogen.
Glycogen stores influence glucose production, secretion, and the synthesis of vital compounds like glucuronides and ascorbate.
The endoplasmic reticulum, particularly the smooth ER, is involved in the final steps of these glycogen-dependent pathways.
