    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Surgical Innovation

    Background:

    • Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide.
    • Effective surgical interventions are crucial for managing intraocular pressure (IOP).

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present the technique, results, and potential mechanism of action of trepano-trabeculectomy.
    • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of this specific trabeculectomy approach.

    Main Methods:

    • The study details the surgical technique of trepano-trabeculectomy.
    • Clinical outcomes and complication rates were assessed post-operatively.

    Main Results:

    • Trepano-trabeculectomy was found to be relatively easy to perform.
    • The procedure demonstrated effectiveness in normalizing intraocular pressure.
    • The surgery was associated with a low rate of consequential complications.

    Conclusions:

    • Trepano-trabeculectomy is a safe and effective surgical option for glaucoma management.
    • This specific technique shows promise, particularly in Black patients who appear to respond favorably.
    • Further research may elucidate the precise mode of action and long-term outcomes.
