    Summary

This study reviewed 20 patients with complete acromio-clavicular dislocation treated surgically. The surgical technique resulted in 90% excellent outcomes for pain, motion, and deformity.

    Area of Science:

    • Orthopedic Surgery
    • Sports Medicine
    • Traumatology

    Background:

    • Acromio-clavicular (AC) joint dislocations are common shoulder injuries.
    • Complete AC dislocation requires effective surgical management to restore function.
    • Previous treatments have varied outcomes, necessitating evaluation of novel techniques.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the long-term efficacy of a specific surgical technique for complete acromio-clavicular dislocation.
    • To assess patient outcomes based on pain, range of motion, deformity, and radiographic evidence.

    Main Methods:

    • A retrospective review of 20 patients treated between 1967 and 1973.
    • Surgical intervention involved transposition of coraco-brachialia, short head of biceps, and pectoralis minor, with AC joint repair.
    • Follow-up duration ranged from 1 to 6 years (average 3 years).

    Main Results:

    • 90% of patients achieved excellent results.
    • 5% of patients had fair results.
    • 5% of patients had poor results, with outcomes assessed by pain, motion, deformity, and X-rays.

    Conclusions:

    • The described surgical technique demonstrates a high success rate for treating complete acromio-clavicular dislocation.
    • This method effectively addresses pain, restores shoulder motion, and corrects deformity.
    • The findings support this surgical approach as a viable option for managing severe AC joint injuries.
