    Summary

    Hyperlipidemia, a condition of high blood lipids, does not significantly impact diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLco). Studies found no correlation between elevated triglyceride levels and changes in DLco in healthy individuals and patients.

    Background:

    • Previous research indicated a potential decrease in diffusing capacity during lipid infusion.
    • Hyperlipidemia is characterized by elevated levels of plasma lipids, including triglycerides.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of hyperlipidemia on the diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLco).
    • To determine if elevated plasma triglyceride concentrations influence DLco.

    Main Methods:

    • DLco and plasma triglyceride levels were measured in normal volunteers and hyperlipidemic patients.
    • Measurements were taken during fat tolerance tests and controlled dietary interventions.
    • Statistical analyses were performed to assess the relationship between triglyceride levels and DLco.
