Respiratory muscle function in patients with moderate left ventricular failure (LVF) was evaluated. While diaphragm contribution to ventilation is preserved, its pressure-generating capacity is reduced, suggesting it’s an early affected muscle in LVF.

    • The diaphragm appears to be the initial inspiratory muscle affected in moderate LVF.
