Background:

Purpose of the Study:

- Fifty patients with intractable unilateral TLE and concordant presurgical evaluation data were analyzed.

- Amygdala T2 (AT2) mapping was performed, and 15 types of SPSs were prospectively and blindly ascertained and compared between groups with normal (n=25) and abnormal (n=25) AT2.

- A higher frequency and specific types of SPSs provide clinical evidence for early amygdala involvement in refractory unilateral TLE.
- Abnormal AT2 in the epileptic temporal lobe is linked to distinct seizure manifestations, suggesting amygdala participation.
- This study highlights the utility of AT2 mapping in understanding seizure semiology and amygdala function in TLE.
