Late cardiotoxicity of anthracyclines

(1) Cardiotoxicity of anthracyclines increases with the cumulative dose and can lead to heart failure. (2) Heart failure can occur several years after treatment, even in patients previously free of cardiac manifestations. (3) Late cardiac effects can be observed in patients who have received less than the recommended maximal cumulative dose. (4) There is no validated monitoring procedure.
