Evidence for superantigen involvement in severe group a streptococcal tissue infections

Severe invasive group A streptococcus (GAS) infections show higher bacterial loads and specific immune responses in inflamed tissues. Superantigens and Th1 cytokines play a critical role in these dangerous GAS tissue infections.
