Insights
Traumatic arterioportal fistulas in children are uncommon. Transcatheter coil embolization offers a safe and effective treatment for these intrahepatic vascular lesions.
Area of Science:
- Vascular Surgery
- Interventional Radiology
- Pediatric Surgery
Background:
- Traumatic arterioportal fistulas (APFs) are rare vascular anomalies, particularly in pediatric patients.
- Intrahepatic APFs can lead to significant complications if left untreated.
Observation:
- This case report focuses on a pediatric patient with an intrahepatic arterioportal fistula resulting from trauma.
- The lesion was identified and characterized through diagnostic imaging.
Findings:
- Transcatheter coil embolization was successfully employed for the management of the intrahepatic APF.
- The procedure demonstrated both safety and efficacy in treating this pediatric vascular lesion.
Implications:
- Transcatheter embolization represents a viable and minimally invasive therapeutic option for pediatric traumatic intrahepatic APFs.
- This approach may help prevent potential complications associated with untreated APFs in children.
Abstract:
Traumatic arterioportal fistulas are rare lesions in the pediatric age group. This case highlights the safe and effective management of intrahepatic arterioportal fistulas by transcatheter coil embolization.
