    Summary

    Endoscopic papillotomy using a diathermy probe proved effective for treating biliary calculi and papillary stenosis in patients. This minimally invasive technique demonstrated high success rates with minimal complications.

    • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a common diagnostic and therapeutic tool for hepatobiliary diseases.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic papillotomy using a high-frequency diathermy probe for managing biliary calculi and papillary stenosis.
    • To assess the outcomes in high-risk patients, those with overlooked calculi, recurrent calculi, and papillary stenosis.

    Main Methods:

    • Experimental studies were conducted in 11 dogs to establish the feasibility of the technique.
    • Endoscopic papillotomy was performed on 23 human patients using a high-frequency diathermy probe.
    • Indications included biliary calculi (high-risk, overlooked, recurrent) and papillary stenosis.
