Area of Science:

  • Earth and Environmental Sciences
  • Ecology
  • Planetary Science

Background:

  • The Closed Ecology Experiment Facilities (CEEF) are planned for northern Japan to study atomic power's environmental effects.
  • CEEF offers a platform for diverse environmental research, including lunar/Mars base habitation and Earth parameter modeling.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the environmental impact of atomic power industries.
  • To explore applications in space habitation and Earth system science.
  • To validate or refine climate estimation models.

Main Methods:

  • Construction of the Closed Ecology Experiment Facilities (CEEF).
  • Conducting preliminary experiments in a small growth chamber.
  • Utilizing the Simple Biosphere Model for comparison.

Main Results:

  • Preliminary experiments yielded results differing from the Simple Biosphere Model's predictions.
  • The study highlights the need for empirical data in environmental modeling.

Conclusions:

  • CEEF is a versatile facility for critical environmental research.
  • Discrepancies with existing models necessitate further investigation and model refinement.
