Background:

  • Conventional surgery for abdominal hydatids, particularly liver hydatids, is associated with high morbidity, including prolonged hospital stays and wound complications.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of minimally invasive techniques for managing abdominal hydatid disease.
  • To compare outcomes of ultrasound-guided aspiration and laparoscopic-assisted percutaneous evacuation with traditional open surgery.

Main Methods:

  • A study involving 58 patients with abdominal hydatids.
  • 16 patients were managed with ultrasound-guided aspiration and 15% saline instillation as outpatients.

    • Minimally invasive management, encompassing aspiration and laparoscopic intervention, presents a viable alternative to open surgery for abdominal hydatids.
    • These techniques demonstrate reduced morbidity compared to conventional surgical approaches.
