Summary

The incidence of pre-eclampsia is similar in twin pregnancies, regardless of whether they are monochorionic or dichorionic. This study found no significant difference in pre-eclampsia rates between these twin types.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the incidence of pre-eclampsia in monochorionic versus dichorionic twin pregnancies.
  • To investigate whether chorionicity influences pre-eclampsia development in twins.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 666 twin pregnancies with two live births after 24 weeks gestation was analyzed.
  • Chorionicity was determined by ultrasound at 10-14 weeks gestation (171 monochorionic, 495 dichorionic).
  • Pregnancy outcomes, specifically pre-eclampsia development, were recorded from maternity units.
