Abstract:
The paper is concerned with the problem of incidence and prevalence of chronic liver disease. The methodology is described of conducting a 13C-methacetin breath test to assess hepatic insufficiency. Sensitivity and specificity, advantages of this non-invasive test are shown together with its merits and prospects for a wide use in gastroenterology.
