Summary

Large anterior cervical osteophytes caused painless dysphagia and noisy swallowing in a 64-year-old man. Imaging confirmed the bone spurs as the cause, supported by a literature review.

  • Physical examination revealed no other significant findings.
  • Plain radiographs and MRI of the cervical spine were performed.

  • Imaging demonstrated large anterior cervical osteophytes.
  • The osteophytes were causing significant mass effect on the pharynx/esophagus.
  • A literature review was conducted on similar cases.

Implications:

  • Anterior cervical osteophytes can be a significant cause of dysphagia.
  • Surgical intervention may be considered for symptomatic large osteophytes.
  • Accurate diagnosis relies on detailed imaging and clinical correlation.
