Summary

Current symptomatic agents (SYSADOA) like chondroitin and glucosamine show limited evidence for osteoarthritis pain relief, especially in high-quality studies. Reliable scientific evidence for structure-modifying effects or benefits in hip or hand osteoarthritis is lacking.

  • Symptomatic slow-acting drugs for osteoarthritis (SYSADOA) are widely used for OA management.
  • The scientific evidence supporting the efficacy and structure-modifying potential of SYSADOA remains a subject of ongoing research and debate.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the level of scientific evidence for SYSADOA in patients with osteoarthritis.
  • To assess the efficacy of chondroitin sulphate and glucosamine sulphate on pain, function, and cartilage in OA.
  • To determine if SYSADOA possess structure-modifying properties.
