    Uncircumcised males have a higher risk of genital herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. This retrospective study suggests a link between lack of circumcision and increased HSV risk, warranting further research.

    • A significantly lower percentage of circumcised patients was observed in the genital herpes group compared to the control group (P < 0.01).
    • This association was not found for other sexually transmitted diseases, except for monilial balanitis.
    • Barrier method contraceptive use was significantly lower in the herpes group compared to the control group.

    Conclusions:

    • The study suggests a positive relationship between the absence of male circumcision and an increased risk of genital HSV infection.
    • Further prospective studies are recommended to confirm these findings and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
    • Contraceptive practices may also play a role in the transmission dynamics of genital HSV.
