Summary

Early neurological exams in acute stroke patients do not reliably predict computed tomography (CT) scan results. CT scans are more informative for assessing ischemic damage in the acute phase.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To correlate neurological clinical findings with cerebral computed tomography (CT) findings in acute stroke patients.
  • To assess the utility of early CT scans in identifying ischemic damage within six hours of stroke onset.

  • 42 patients with presumed middle cerebral artery territory stroke were evaluated.
  • Clinical assessment used the Scandinavian Stroke Scale Score.
  • Cerebral CT scans were analyzed by a neuroradiologist.

  • Clinical deficit severity did not consistently predict CT findings.
