Background:

  • Migraine is a common neurological disorder often accompanied by aura, which are transient neurological symptoms.
  • Persistent visual phenomena can be distressing and may impact quality of life.

Observation:

  • Two patients presented with long-standing, aura-like visual disturbances suggestive of migraine.
  • Standard laboratory investigations were unremarkable in both cases.

Findings:

  • Brain single photon emission computed tomography revealed occipital hypoperfusion in both patients.
  • A two-week course of lamotrigine led to complete resolution of the visual symptoms.

Implications:

  • Persistent migrainous visual phenomena may represent a benign, albeit prolonged, manifestation of migraine aura.
