Ulcerative colitis can rarely lead to interstitial pneumonia, a serious condition with a poor prognosis. Early recognition and awareness are crucial for managing this rare complication.

Background:

Observation:

  • A patient with ulcerative colitis developed idiopathic interstitial pneumonia.
  • The patient's pneumonia showed no response to antibiotic and steroid treatments.
  • Respiratory support was administered during treatment.

Findings:

  • Interstitial pneumonia is a rare but severe complication of ulcerative colitis.
  • The underlying cause of interstitial pneumonia in this case was unknown, with possible immune involvement.
