DM at the crossroads: survey highlights continuing challenges facing a young industry

While the number of chronic diseases addressed by DM efforts is on the rise, only a small percentage of individuals who could be helped by such efforts are enrolled in formal DM programs. Further, the group which is most impacted by chronic disease--Medicare beneficiaries--is least likely of all to have access to DM activities.
