Area of Science:

  • Forensic Medicine
  • Radiology
  • Pediatric Trauma

Background:

  • Medical imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosing internal injuries.
  • Unexplained foreign objects in the body require thorough investigation.

Observation:

  • X-ray examination of a trauma patient revealed two sewing needles within the cranial cavity.
  • The needles' position and characteristics suggested they were not related to the recent injury.

Findings:

  • Forensic analysis confirmed the sewing needles were deliberately inserted into the skull during the patient's infancy.
  • The trauma was unrelated to the presence of the foreign objects.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of comprehensive diagnostic workups, even in trauma cases.
  • It underscores the potential for long-term consequences of childhood abuse or accidental foreign body insertion.
