Abstract:
Twenty-one patients with asthma were examined in order to evaluate the effect of glucose inhalations on bronchial hyperreactivity. Plasma glucose, erythrocyte glycosylated hemoglobin, and glucose membrane transport in erythrocytes were evaluated. Acetylcholine test was carried out after inhalation of 5% isoosmolar glucose solution with evaluation of bronchial sensitivity and reactivity. Inhalations of glucose solution in atopic asthma can affect the bronchi by changing their hyperreactivity. This effect will be used for developing a new therapeutic approach to treatment of asthma.
