Differential cell counts in sputum in respiratory epidemiology: a pilot study

Measuring sputum eosinophils is not a reliable method for validating self-reported asthma symptoms in large population studies. Most individuals reporting asthma or wheezing had normal eosinophil counts, limiting its diagnostic utility.
