Summary

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) develops resistance through staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) integration. This mobile genetic element enables MRSA to evolve into a difficult-to-treat pathogen, even in the community setting.
