[Note on the 150 first residant members of the Société de Médecine de Paris]

An attempt is made to bring some general data on the first persons who entered as "residant" members the Société de Médecine de Paris, which had just been founded two hundred years ago. The idea of this study arose from the very incomplete lists of these early members which were given in a booklet published in 1896, on the occasion of the first centenary of the Society. The present note covers a period of two years, from March 1796 to March 1798. During this time, a total of 150 residant members (i.e. living in Paris) were admitted, the list of whom is given in annex. The author makes a point of the fact that the society was created with the ambition of including not only the best physicians, surgeons and apothecaries, but also all other kinds of scientists who could contribute to the progress of the healing art. He also mentions some of the high positions and honours which were given to many of these distinguished men.
