[The place of Isaac Israeli in medieval medicine]

Despite the fact that some few studies have been made of Isaac Israeli, his personality remains relatively obscure to the medical historian. He is regarded as a neoplatonic philosopher. He departed Egypt for Kairouan at the beginning of the 10th Century, leaving a series of medical treatises in Arabic, on fever, diets and urine showing great originality. Constantine the African, a native of Tunisia, translated most of his work into Latin, a century later, thus ensuring their enduring success. In order to determine the originality of this author, we will analyse what Pierre de Saint-Flour and Jacques Despars, respectively of the 14th and the 15th Century withheld about him. Both these physicians exhibit vast erudition in the way they deal with the works of Isaac Israeli heritage enabling us to have a better understanding of them.
